MILL GROVE CHURCH OF MIDLAND

About Mill Grove

Our History.

In the years following the Civil War, Midland was much like other towns in the rural south. Most of the residents farmed or worked in the community since the primary means of travel was by walking or horse and wagon. Some members of the community erected a “brush arbor” beside the mill that operated on Rocky River. Worship services were held there until a small frame church was build in a large grove of oak trees. This is how Mill Grove got it’s name – from the mill arbor and from the grove of trees.

Mill Grove was organized into a church in 1877 by the Reverend Hubert Peoples. The early wooden church was replaced by a brick structure in 1938. Additions have been made since then, such as a fellowship building and parsonage in 1955.

What We Believe.

Firmly rooted in scripture, our essential beliefs at Mill Grove guide our decisions as a church.

There is one true God, who exists in three persons (the Trinity) as the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

God the Father sovereignly created the universe and is Holy, without blemish or stain; God reigns sovereign over all and He reigns supreme over all living creatures in heaven and earth.

Jesus Christ was God’s only son and came to earth as God incarnate for the forgiveness of mankind’s sin.  Jesus died on a cross as a sinless sacrifice for all sin, and He rose from the dead on the third day and now resides with God the Father in heaven.

The Holy Spirit is God in spirit that lives within each person that has accepted Jesus Christ as their savior.  The Holy Spirit guides, protects, comforts, convicts and empowers those who have given their life to Jesus Christ.

Eternal life, or “salvation,” comes solely from the saving work of Jesus Christ death and resurrection, but must be accepted by each person for their salvation to be complete.  A person confirms their salvation by accepting Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, allowing Him to reign in their lives and deliver them from sin so that they live holy lives that glorify Him.

The Bible is God’s authoritative, infallible and complete word to humanity, and is profitable for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16).  God himself breathed the words of the bible into existence through the use of prophets, disciples and leaders who God called.

Jesus is coming again to establish a new heaven and a new earth, where those who have accepted Him as Lord will reign with Him forever.

Jesus commanded all who know Him to go throughout all the world, proclaiming the truth of the gospel (good news of Christ’ salvation to mankind), making disciples in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.  This commandment is known as “The Great Commission.”
